No experience needed! Learn to create unusual earrings in this introduction to the ancient Korean art of Keum-boo, where 24 kt gold is fused to fine silver and patinated to create a unique effect. Keum-boo is a simple but precise process and the instructor for this class will walk you carefully and thoroughly through the process step-by-step, as we all create earrings that are your interpretation of those shown in the illustration. Each step will be carefully demonstrated and explained, but you will be able to bring your own design ideas to the project. Skills covered in this class include depletion gilding, cutting and placing foil, fusing, and patinating the metal, and finally polishing and finishing. Silver blanks will be available in a selection of shapes, and availability may vary. Cost of the kit with all the components needed to make earrings will be $85 including the silver ear wires, in addition to the class fee of $95. When you leave class, you will not only have successfully created your first piece of wearable art—but you will also take with you a comprehensive handout, with fully illustrated step-by-step instructions to help you get started in your home studio.
