Wire Rings, 4 Different Ways!January 19, 3:00pm - 5:30pmWirework Class By Susan RyzaSusan Ryza designs & fabricates hand-crafted jewelry using a variety of materials, including wire, cord, gemstones, Swarovski crystal, plate metal, chain, fabric & ribbon. As a jewelry teacher as well as a designer, she loves learning & incorporating new techniques & methods – among them chain maille, bead weaving, wirework & bead stringing. She has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and an MS in Education from Long Island University. Since 2000, she teaches jewelry-making & fiber crafts at Santa Monica College, various local Santa Monica schools & stores, & at her home studio. Having a textile design background, she especially enjoys adapting fiber techniques for jewelry – using macramé, crochet, spool knitting, netting, weaving, knotting & braiding. In addition to teaching, Susan worked with weavers in the Peace Corps in El Salvador and owned a wholesale millinery and handcraft import business for 15 years.

This class is designed for all skill levels, from those new to jewelry making to more experienced crafters looking to expand their techniques.
Class Description:
Perfect for both beginners and seasoned wire-workers, this class will guide you through the creation of four
distinct wire ring designs: a three-stone ring, an adjustable wire ring, a thin wire ring, and a stacked button
ring. Each style offers a unique approach to wire manipulation and adornment, providing you with a variety of
skills and techniques to enhance your jewelry-making repertoire. You will also learn how to use a ring mandrel
to size your rings, how to incorporate beads and buttons into your ring designs, how to end off your ring bands
and how to use a variety of wire gauges in your ring making. The materials fee includes a plastic ring mandrel,
and all the wire and beads you need to create the four rings that you’ll take home from this class. You’ll have
a choice of a variety of wire colors, beads and buttons. You’ll also come away with detailed, printed
instructions for your future ring making. Other tools needed in this class will be available to borrow during the
class and to purchase at discounted prices, if desired.
What to Bring: Feel free to bring any special stones, beads, or buttons you would like to incorporate into your
rings. We encourage creativity and personalization!
